Abstract
Trivial conscience assesses egoism as a non-moral phenomenon. Meannwhile, in the history of ethics there are some cases when thinkers tried to provide the moral justification for egoism. The article considers egoism as a life position in M. Stirner's and F. Nietzsche's philosophy. These philosophers not merely tried to justify egoism, but also claimed that this position is the only one that provides the correct principle of life. Nevertheless their doctrines reveal some fundamental differences, that constitute the differences between their attitudes to the role of egoism in realization of their ethical ideals (“Ego”, “Ubermensch“).
