Abstract
Humanism is generally considered from the standpoint of a certain philosophical concept of the Human being as it was postulated during Renaissance. Later that concept was interpreted in various ways and its assessments varied in the range from positive to sharply negative. Nowadays humanism, its place, meaning and importance in the History is the subject of sharp controversies and debates. According to the author of this paper, recognition of Humanism as an universal value entails interpretation of Human history as human advance towards formation of an universal civilization based on the principles of individual freedom and inter-individual dialog.
