Abstract
Long decades of living behind the "iron curtain" led the Russian society after 1980s to the situation when values of Western journalism were mostly unappreciated. The author of this article endeavors to analyze the dynamic interrelation between the two main values of the Western mass media — freedom of speech and responsibility — and tries to answer why understanding these dynamics could be important for a Russian citizen nowadays.
