Abstract
Sexuality in the Roman Empire period I BC - II in. AD was strictly regulated and was supporting the social system. It was manifested in visual sensual images. Two basic principles (conversation and acquisition), on which understanding of sexuality was based, were personified in the images of gods Venus and Mars. Images of taboo sexual relations were perceived as a comic, accompanied by laughter with conservatory function.
