Abstract
The 150-th A.P. Chekhov birth anniversary birth has become a significant event that gave rise to broad discussions about the current state of Russian culture. The author addresses the emergence of the so called mass culture, which overwhelms the audiences, distracting them from genuine aesthetic and moral values.
